Making Roads Safer
According to a recent survey from the US Department of Transport, 95 percent of road accidents happen owing to human errors. Approaches for Deploying V2X
Over the years, the firm’s V2X technology has assisted many of its clientele in building and increasing the efficacy of automated cars. A case worth mentioning is of two revolutionary electric motorbikes who took an 80-day around the world tour. Named as STORM Eindhoven and powered by Connected Vehicle solutions from Cohda Wireless, this project was an initiative of a team involving 23 students from the Netherland-based Eindhoven University. The bikes covered 26,000 kilometers in 80 days and used Cohda’s MK5 OBUs to facilitate autonomous communication and vehicles and infrastructure in proximity. Apart from examining the performance of the vehicle, Cohda solutions also improved vehicle safety and efficiency.
Joining Hands for Supplementing Traffic Infrastructure
Recently, Cohda Wireless signed an agreement with ATC and BRAUMS to improve the traffic infrastructure and management systems to accommodate more connected vehicles on the roads. ATC and Braums have established partners for delivering traffic management systems and infrastructure and the MOU signed between the three parties will enable the SCATS controllers from ATC to incorporate Cohda’s V2X communication platform. “Connecting Cohda’s roadside units to SCATS controllers will provide a world of information that can be leveraged to enhance traffic flow and safety. It will provide very detailed information on the speed and direction of connected vehicles as well as detect the presence of pedestrians and cyclists through their smartphones which can be relayed to vehicles and a central control room,” cites Paul Gray, CEO of Cohda Wireless. The industry veteran further adds, “A V2X-enhanced SCATS system can also be applied for vehicle prioritization, whether it be to keep buses and freight moving to prevent traffic congestion or to enhance access for emergency vehicles. The signal timing information can be transmitted to connected cars to facilitate the economic and environmentally preferable ‘green wave’ driving style.”
As a part of its expansion plans, Cohda Wireless recently established an office in Shanghai to leverage the rapidly evolving smart cities and autonomous car markets of the country.
